27 Ekim’de kaybettiğimiz Rock müziğin efsane isimlerinden Lou Reed’in ardından New York Times gazetesinin vefat haberinde (obituary) belirtildiği gibi, ‘’İngilizce dil ve edebiyat mezunu olarak yaptığı işlerin edebi bir değeri olduğunun farkında‘’ bir söz yazarıydı aynı zamanda.
Gazeteci Kristine McKenna ile röportajında, ‘’Her zaman şuna inandım; Eğer ritmi kaybetmeden yapabiliyorsanız Rock müzik için çok önemli şeyler yazabilirsiniz’’ diyen Reed ekliyor: ‘’Yazdığım şeyler bir şarkı yerine, bir kitap ya da filmde geçiyor olsaydı bu kadar etkili olmazdı’’.
