Drew Brees breaks NFL single-season passing record

In week 16 against the Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees broke Dan Marino’s long standing record of passing yards in a year of 5,084 with a 9 yard touchdown pass to Darren Sproles with just under 3 minutes left in the fourth quarter of the game. Brees needed 305 yards to break the record entering the game and exceeded that mark with 307. He ended the game having thrown for 5,087 total passing yards for the regular season with 1 regular season game remaining.

Brees threatened Marino’s record once before in 2008, when he finished with 5,069 yards, making him and Marino the only quarterbacks to pass for 5,000
